January Quarterly Event - January 28, 2025

The Historical  Society of Harrison County will hold its January Quarterly Event on Tuesday, January 28th at 7:00 pm at the Harrison County Community Foundation Conference Room at 1523 Foundation Way (First building on the left on the road to the YMCA.)  The presenter for the evening will be Dr. Ronald Van Stockum, a Kentucky scientist, singer, actor, lawyer and writer of Journey Logs, Magic,, Realism, Science, History and Culture. He will speak about his recent publication "Surrounding Ft. Knox Including Southern Indiana." There will be a book sale/book signing as part of the event. At the January 28h Event, there  will also be an opportunity to donate $50 to the Historical Society of Harrison County (cash or checks please) and receive a wrapped package containing six HSHC soft cover books including the recent "Journey Along Blue River," "Small Towns, Harrison County," "9 Historic Buildings That Were in Corydon During the Capital Period - And Are Still Here!", "Harrison County Fair Sesquicentennial Souvenir Book," "Harrison County Driving Tour,"  and "Down in Old Corydon" or individual titles can be acquired separately  (Supplies are limited).

History of Hurst Family in Harrison County, Indiana

On Tuesday, November 26, Eric Hurst will present "History of the Hurst Family in Harrison County, Indiana at 7:00 pm at the Harrison County Community Foundation at 1523 Foundation Way, Corydon, Indiana.  The event is free and open to the public.

Book Signing Event during Light Up Corydon Event on November 30th

Saturday, November 30th-The Historical Society of Harrison County will host a Book Signing event from 3-6 pm at the Historic Posey House (225 N. Oak Street-One block west of the First State Capitol Building).  Dr. Ronald Von Stockum will be present to meet the public and sign "Surrounding Ft. Saturday, December 14-Holiday Historic  Homes Tour (1:00-4:00 pm) - Both the William Henry Harrison Log Cabin and the Posey House will be stops on the 2024 tour.  Tickets are  available through Mainstreet Corydon.  Be sure to check out our lighted magnolia tree in front of the WHH Log Cabin at 425 North Capitol Avenue and our collection of Charles Schaffer's models which will be lighted for Christmas and on display inside the historic Posey House at 225 North Oak Street.  


Episode One of Craig Hall's "Indiana's Story" features Karen Schwartz, President of the Historical Society of Harrison County with the theme Historic Corydon Indiana.  The pair take a whirlwind exterior walking tour that focuses on the Nine Historic Buildings That Were Here During the Capital Period (1816-1825) and Are Still Here! beginning with the First State Capitol and ending at the Posey House. To celebrate the release, Karen Schwartz will retrace the route with a walking tour on Saturday, October 5th at 10:00 am.  The event is free and open to the public and participants should meet in front of Old Capitol Building on the Square.  The tour will end at the Posey House and attendees are welcome to visit the William Henry Harrison Log Cabin at 419 North Capitol Avenue, which will open for tours at 11:00 am that day.  The cabin is open weekends in September and October.  For more information or to have the link emailed to you,  contact Schwartz at (812)736-2373 or karengleitz@hotmail.com.  As the Historical Society of Harrison County continues to celebrate its 20th birthday, the Society will host an event on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 pm at the Harrison County Community foundation Building at 1523 Foundation Way in Corydon (On road to YMCA),  The topic for the evening will be "Indiana's Bicentennial Revisited" and will features photos and info focusing on Historical Society of Harrison County's 2016  Bicentennial events. (The program on Reuben Binkley originally scheduled for the evening will be rescheduled for a later date.) The event is free and open to the public. BLUE RIVER BOOKS are here!  Contact Karen Schwartz at (812)736-2373 or karengleitz@hotmail.com  to make arrangements to get your copy of "Journey Along Blue River."  Books are available for a $20 donation to the Historical Society of Harrison County.  (Books are also available at Chestnut Street Market  @ 220 East Chestnut Street in Corydon. )  Journey Along Blue River Books will also be available at any of our programs listed below...on the 4th Tuesday of each month in 2024 @ 7:00 pm at the HCCF @ 1523 Foundation Way in Corydon (on the road on the YMCA.)  


 The Historical Society of Harrison County will have the William Henry Harrison Log Cabin at 419 North Capitol Avenue open on fall weekends in September and October (Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-5, Sunday 1-5) Or to make an appointment at another time , call (812) 736-2373 or karengleitz@hotmail.com.  The cabin is filled with a wide variety of artifacts from Harrison County Indiana's rich history including memorabilia about William Henry Harrison, the Battle of Corydon, Squire Boone, the Harrison County, Fair, Keller Manufacturing Company, Griffin's Store, the Constitution Elm, James Best, the Nine Historic Buildings That Were in Corydon During the Capital Period (1816-1825) That Are Still Here!"  as well as tools and farm implements, signs, advertising, quilts, baskets, books, maps, photos, paintings and many other commemorative artifacts and items of interest.  The cabin visit is free and open to the public.  Several of the Historical Society of Harrison County books, including the recently released "Journey Along Blue River," "Small Towns Harrison County," "Harrison County Driving Tour," "Nine Historic Buildings That Were Here During the Capitol Period (1816-1825)-And Are Still Here!" Elijah Marrs-Slave, Soldier, Servant," focusing on the life and experiences of a US Colored Troops soldier recruited at Camp Nelson, Kentucky.   Tuesday, August 27 at 7:00 pm at the Harrison County Community Foundation Building.  Free and Open to the Public.
